George becomes a Political Protester

During the post election after realizing that California is controlled by the inter-cities of  S.F., LA. and  with Senators like Finestine and Boxer, I decided to get involved.  On the way home from Thanksgiving  at Kathy’s sister in Danville( near SF) we heard about a rally to protest the continued counting of favorable ballots by Al Gore.  It was promoted as a peaceful protest, not organized, just regular people letting the media know were not happy with the actions of Democrats in Florida.   The rally was on Saturday 11/26,  Kathy had to work so I went by myself.  They were having a Christmas  Parade which started at 11am and over at 1pm when the rally started.  People with signs and posters started arriving  at noon. By 1pm there were between 4-5 thousand people.  There were lots of families and older folks, just a lot of nice people.  Due to the size of the group they had to get an emergency permit. Part of the group walked around the Capital, other were waving at cars and the majority was at the north steps.  I did not take a sign and felt a little left out, but had a great time with nice people.  There were people taking pictures, kind of like tourist, it was very low keyed, But fun.

Due to the creative counting and legal maneuvers the saga continued another week, so I got my signs and off the 12/2 rally. This was more organized but less people maybe 2000.  This time they had a sound system, some local speakers and lots of people with all kind of signs. Again a lot of fun it lasted only a couple of hours, but made my day.  I felt that this was a way for the other side to make a statement, not some screaming, in your face, Democrats.  No mob, it was like a picnic.  I hope this is a trend of the Republican Party, and maybe more of us who have been silent for so long will get active.  I believe if we don’t our America will cease to exist, we will serve those in power, and they will not serve us.

12/9 my birthday, Kathy had to work again, so off to the rally.  This time I had my signs ready and would get my message across.

They had a bring a gift for Toys for Tots, and got quite a lot of toys, again the rally lasted about 1-2 hours, then a flag waving lap around the Capital and home.  There are several web sites with pictures of this rally and other around the country.

Below are a few photos from the 12/9/00 rally.  ( click on the picture to enlarge)
